Claude Monet (1840-1926)

Bearded lover of light,

you braved the sun and snow

to follow her Giverny glow

through the clouds, the crowds,

the pools of water lily,

to capture her on canvas,

to have your way with this

most perfect model plein air.

"When it gets dark," you said,

"I feel as though I'm dying."

And we thank you here

for staying alive,

for brushing your brilliance

into our eyes

with such a touch

of everlasting light.
